📱 About KillLine
KillLine is a financial risk simulator that uses Monte Carlo simulation to help you assess your financial resilience. Through hundreds or thousands of random simulations, it evaluates how well your finances can withstand unexpected events like job loss, medical emergencies, and other financial shocks.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Monte Carlo simulation?
Monte Carlo simulation is a statistical technique that runs thousands of random scenarios to predict possible outcomes. In KillLine, it simulates your financial future by randomly generating risk events based on their probabilities, giving you a realistic picture of your financial resilience.
Q: How many simulations should I run?
100 iterations: Quick test (~1 second) - Good for initial exploration
1,000 iterations: Daily assessment (~5 seconds) - Recommended for regular use
10,000 iterations: Important decisions (~30 seconds) - Best accuracy for major financial decisions
Q: What do the luck presets mean?
Lucky 🍀: All event probabilities reduced by 50% - For optimistic scenarios
Normal 😐: Based on statistical data - Realistic baseline
Unlucky 💀: All probabilities increased 2-3x - Stress testing worst-case scenarios
Q: Why is my health score low?
A low health score typically indicates insufficient emergency funds relative to your expenses. We recommend maintaining 6-12 months of expenses in your emergency fund. Review the recommendations tab for personalized suggestions to improve your score.
Q: Can multiple events happen at the same time?
Yes, multiple events can occur simultaneously in a simulation, except for unemployment and income reduction which are mutually exclusive. This reflects real-world scenarios where financial challenges often compound.
Q: How do I simulate the impact of buying a house?
Increase the housing expense probability to 10% and set the expense range to your expected down payment amount. This will help you assess whether you can handle the financial impact of a home purchase.
Q: Why does major illness affect both expenses and income?
Major illnesses typically require extended recovery time during which you cannot work normally, resulting in reduced income. The simulation reflects this reality by reducing income to 50% for 12 months in addition to medical expenses.
Q: Is my financial data safe?
Absolutely. All your data is stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. The app never connects to the internet, never uploads your data, and we have no servers. Your financial information stays completely private and under your control.
Q: Can I export or backup my data?
Currently, you can export simulation results as images to your photo library. Full data backup and restore functionality is planned for a future update. Your data is automatically backed up if you have iCloud backup enabled for your device.
Q: What does the health score mean?
80-100 (Safe): Can handle most extreme situations
60-79 (Warning): Can handle regular risks
40-59 (Danger): May not handle extreme situations
0-39 (Critical): Emergency fund severely insufficient
Q: How often should I run simulations?
We recommend running simulations monthly to track your financial health trends, and before any major financial decisions like buying a house, changing jobs, or starting a business.
Understanding Results
Health Score
Your financial health score (0-100) indicates how well your finances can withstand unexpected events. It's calculated based on your survival rate across all simulations, median survival months, and worst-case scenarios.
Survival Rate
The percentage of simulations where you maintained positive reserves throughout the entire 60-month period. A higher survival rate indicates better financial resilience.
Median Survival Months
The middle value of how long you survived across all simulations. This gives you a realistic expectation of your financial endurance under various scenarios.
Best/Worst Case
Best Case: The highest ending reserve amount across all simulations (when luck is on your side)
Worst Case: The lowest ending reserve amount (when multiple unfortunate events occur)
Tips for Better Results
- Build Emergency Fund: Aim for 6-12 months of expenses in savings
- Reduce Fixed Expenses: Lower monthly commitments improve resilience
- Diversify Income: Multiple income streams reduce unemployment risk
- Get Insurance: Health and disability insurance protect against major events
- Regular Monitoring: Run simulations monthly to track progress
- Stress Test: Use "Unlucky" preset before major decisions
System Requirements
- iOS Version: 15.0 or later
- Compatible Devices: iPhone 8 and newer, all iPad models from 5th generation
- Storage: Approximately 20 MB
- Internet: Not required (works completely offline)
- Languages: English, Simplified Chinese
Troubleshooting
App crashes or freezes during simulation
Try reducing the number of simulation iterations. If running 10,000 simulations, try 1,000 instead. Restart the app and try again. If the problem persists, please contact support.
Cannot save images to photo library
Go to Settings > Privacy > Photos and ensure KillLine has permission to add photos. You don't need to grant full photo library access, just "Add Photos Only" permission.
Data disappeared after app update
Your data should persist across updates. If you've lost data, check if you have an iCloud backup of your device. Restore from backup to recover your financial profiles and history.
Simulation results seem unrealistic
Check your event probability settings. If you've customized probabilities, they may be set too high or too low. Try resetting to a standard preset (Normal) and run the simulation again.
App not available in my language
Currently, KillLine supports English and Simplified Chinese. We're working on adding more languages in future updates. The app will automatically use your device's language if supported, otherwise it defaults to English.
